The 2024 Emmy Awards will air on ABC on Sunday, September 15.
Advance:
- ‘The Bear’, ‘Shogun’ and ‘Baby Reindeer were among the big winners of the 2024 Emmys
- ‘Hacks’ was a surprise winner.
- Dan and Eugene Levy hosted the evening.
It could have been the second Emmy Awards of 2024 (thanks to the first strike-delayed landing in January of this year), but otherwise everything was business as usual for the Television Academy Awards.
Although there was the standard replay attack (‘the bear‘ won 11 awards, breaking his own record), while Billy Crudup and Smart Jean I win more awards (for ‘The morning program‘ and ‘tricks respectively), there was still room for some surprises –– Lamorne Morris triumphed in the category of Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for ‘fargo‘ on Robert Downey Jr. for ‘The sympathizer,’ while talking about ‘Hacks,’ was the somewhat shocking (though welcome) winner in the Comedy Series field over ‘the bear.’
The other big winners were in the limited series category (even if one of them is in early development in its second season) like ‘shogun‘ and ‘baby reindeer‘He won multiple trophies. Jodie Foster He won the first Emmy of his career for ‘True Detective: Night Country.’

Eugene and Daniel Levythe stars (and in Dan’s case, creator) of ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ animated the evening, which began with a monologue that addressed the controversy of a constantly dramatic series like ‘The Bear’ dominating the comedy categories and the growing presence of big movie stars on television thanks to the lower episodic demand of the streaming series.
And the show’s big motto could be “nostalgia,” as several categories were handed out by stars of old TV shows like ‘The west wing‘ and ‘happy days‘ or those who played particular types of characters such as police officers or lawyers.
There was a passionate and funny speech from Juan Leguizamo on representation on television and a welcome award for top television producer Greg Berlanti. More confusing additions? Bearing jelly roll perform the song In Memoriam.
