There is a trade-in offer at Best Buy right now. circulating on Reddit which can allow you to take a new one Pixel 9 either Pixel 9 Pro completely free. ZDNET checked out the online deal to see what it was all about, and as it turns out, while this free offer no longer appears to be active, certain trade-in values can save you hundreds of dollars on a new Pixel 9 series phone (seriously, Some redditors I’ve already gotten new Pixel 9 phones for under $200.)
Additionally, Best Buy is offering a $100 gift card with the purchase of the Pixel 9 or a $200 gift card with the purchase of the Pixel 9 Pro. So I tried the offer out myself.

This is how it works
Pixel 9 Pro On Best Buy’s website, it looks like products are “coming soon” to release, so while you can still calculate the trade-in value of your phone, the site won’t let you make the payment. The Pixel 9 is a different story, though. I have an iPhone 14 Pro (128GB) in Deep Purple for reference.
To start, I navigated to the Pixel 9 Purchase page on Best Buy’s site. I then enter my phone information into the “Trade-in & Save” section of the site. I then selected a Pixel 9 (128GB) in Obsidian and added it to my cart. Best Buy is offering me $630 for my iPhone 14 Pro and sales tax will cost me $53. My total cost after trade-in is $222, plus I’ll receive a $100 Best Buy gift card, bringing the total cost of a new Google Pixel 9 after a trade-in to (check notes) only $122 — over $670 savings on the new smartphone. Here’s a screenshot of what my cart looked like.
On top of those huge savings, I’m also being offered three months of Google One 100GB for new subscribers. Best Buy is also giving me the option to pick up and drop off the device at a store of my choice on August 27, or have a new Pixel 9 delivered right to my door the same day.
It’s also worth mentioning that Best Buy will charge your payment method for the full purchase value + tax for the Pixel 9, and then refund the final trade-in value within 7-10 days, which may be subject to change.

While I’m still not sure about upgrading my phone (I’d rather use it for a few years before buying a new one), this deal certainly gives me something to consider. If you’re interested in upgrading as well, be sure to check out To check it out while these sweet pre-order deals last.
