Supposedly, the best films of a given year are released from September to December; Better to campaign for the year-end awards that are voted on at that time. In practice, that is simply not true. Every year from January to June, tons of great movies come out, even if those movies do They tend to be overlooked by some critics and awards voters.
Lists like this will hopefully counteract some of that end-of-year bias; contains 15 really good movies of 2024 starting in the first half of 2024. Some of these films will likely receive some attention in November and December. (I have a feeling zendaya This year’s performances will be too memorable to ignore.) Others could legitimately fly under the radar, which is all the more reason to celebrate them now, get them on people’s radars, and ensure that people remember to watch them on VOD or 4K or streaming in the next few months. I have a couple of blockbusters, some really interesting independent films and even one or two international films.
What makes something a 2024 release versus a 2023 release or a 2025 release is becoming increasingly confusing, but all of the titles below received a major theatrical release or made their streaming debut this calendar year. If you don’t see one of your favorites here, it’s possible Yo We have to catch up before the end of the year. (Or maybe your favorite was bad, did you ever consider that possibility?)
