The 81-year-old politician will soon reach the end of his four-year term, having taken office for the third time in 2021 with his vice president, Kamala HarrisReflecting on his tenure, President Biden noted“America has the strongest economy in the world. We’ve made historic investments in rebuilding our nation, lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans. We’ve provided critically needed health care to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances. We passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. We appointed the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. And we passed the most important climate legislation in the history of the world. America has never been better positioned to lead than it is today.”
In a separate statement, he wrote: “I have dedicated my presidency to proving that, and I will continue to do so today, tomorrow, and every day I have the honor of serving as your president.”
He has recently been unable to perform his duties due to contracting COVID-19. In a statement released by press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, his physician said: “The President presented this afternoon with upper respiratory symptoms, including rhinorrhea (runny nose) and nonproductive cough, with malaise. He was feeling well for his first event of the day, but since he was not feeling better, he took a point-of-care COVID-19 test and the results were positive for the COVID-19 virus. With this in mind, the President will self-isolate in accordance with CDC guidance for symptomatic individuals.”
