Created in its first incarnation (a lantern named Alan Scott) in 1940 by Martin Nodell and Bill FingerThe concept of the Green Lantern comics is that of a super-powered police force that fights evil with rings that allow them to channel energy into different forms. There are many Lanterns that patrol the known and unknown universe.
Green Lantern's on-screen history has been a mixed bag. While different versions of the character have emerged in movies and animated series, his live-action counterparts have been less fortunate. Ryan Reynolds played the Hal Jordan version on a 2011 movie which did not succeed at the box office, and there were only brief glimpses on the small screen.
Even Zack Snyder failed to realize his chosen Lantern ––John Stewart–– in his mammoth Snyder Cut of 'Justice League'. Despite filming a cameo with Wayne T. Carr Like Stewart, Warner asked him to write out the character due to the studio's own plans. In the end, Snyder replaced him with Martian Manhunter.

Gunn has Nathan Fillion playing the incarnation of Guy Gardner in his 'Superman' film, which lands on July 11 next year.
And the show was already in development before Gunn and Safran made their big announcement. In 2020,Pride and prejudice and zombies' Seth Grahame-Smith came aboard to write and direct what HBO Max (as the streaming service was then called) was envisioning as its most expensive series to date, a “Green Lantern” drama set in space whose focus would be on the Alan Scott and Guy Gardner iterations of the character between the earliest and most popular versions.
'Lanterns' will follow the characters of Hal Jordan and John Stewart, as new recruit Stewart and Lantern legend Jordan are described in the latest official synopsis as “two intergalactic police officers drawn into a dark Earthly mystery as they investigate a murder in the heartland of America.”
