Seems Deadpool and Wolverine I never planned to take the MCU seriously! One of the film’s producers revealed his early concepts that poked fun at Marvel.

As much as Deadpool and Wolverine Not only did it serve as a love letter to the Marvel universe outside of the MCU, but it also poked a lot of fun at the franchise. The entire plot of the movie revolved around everything that wasn’t created by Disney being left in the dumpster. However, it seems that wasn’t always the plan, and actually, it might have been the best route the team could have taken!

Wendy Jacobson, who served as executive producer of Deadpool and Wolverinerevealed that the film went through many concepts before arriving at its current incarnation. Many of them poked fun at Marvel Studios, and one of the most surprising was a nearly shot-for-shot remake of one of the MCU’s most hated films.

“There were so many different ideas, they really ran the gamut,” Jacobson explained in a recent interview with CBR“I think at one point, we did a very modest-budget road trip independent movie with him and Dopinder. We did a frame-by-frame remake of Thor 2 with Deadpool in it right down to the first act cut. We did all kinds of stuff.”

Deadpool’s Discarded Connection to the MCU

All of those ideas would have been fantastic, just not as fun as what they ultimately chose. Deadpool and WolverineHowever, it seems that recreating Thor wasn’t even the closest the movie came to being within Marvel canon. Moving on, Wendy Jacobson revealed that a teaser clip had been planned to reveal that Deadpool had been in the MCU all along.

“We had the Deadpool deleted scenes extravaganza, where we were going to show that Deadpool was in the MCU the whole time; his scenes were just left on the cutting room floor,” Jacobson explained. “So, those were just some of the crazy ideas… I’ll do whatever Ryan does.” [Reynolds] “I want to do it, let’s be clear, because I know it’s going to be great.”

It would have been crazy if it was revealed that Deadpool was MCU canon all along. However, given the appearance of several key X-Men in his films, it likely would have made the heads of hardcore Marvel canon fans explode. While it would all have been fun to watch, it’s clear that Deadpool and Wolverine turned out to be the perfect choice for the sequel.
