It’s an open secret at this point that Blade It’s one of the most problematic projects Marvel has ever taken on. The reset has passed multiple writersdelays and even lose their director. While there is still some hope that Mahershala Ali’s film will make it to its release date next year, all signs point to a delay until 2026.
These delays are not cheap. According The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel had already invested in a massive train action set before the reboot’s director parted ways with the project, leading them to give the prop to another Disney production. It was probably millions of dollars down the drain for Mahershala Ali. BladeDon’t even think about all the other costs associated with labor.
Marvel’s new path for the Blade reboot
Despite all these problems, it seems that Marvel is not ready to throw up its hands and leave Mahershala Ali to the wolves. The studio is reportedly still trying to solidify its plans for the reboot and is now deciding to completely lock down a script before courting a director for the project.
“It is unclear how many millions Marvel has spent on Blade, including development and pre-production costs. But this will not stop now,” the report revealed. “Marvel has learned in recent years that it is not worth rushing production. And the studio prides itself on having a high development-to-production ratio, something that eludes most other companies. The new plan calls for the script to be written over the summer and then sent to the directors.”
Good to know Marvel won’t rush Blade in production. Given how highly anticipated the film is and the bad PR it’s already had, it’s better to take some time to find the perfect script rather than rushing into creating a shoddy product. While the film likely won’t make it to its current release date, fans can rest assured that the Mahershali Ali reboot is in cautious hands.
