Is Greg Berlanti proud of the Arrowverse he created? The producer reflects on his journey as DC Studios prepares for its reboot.
Greg Berlanti is best known as the mind behind the Arrowverse. For many fans, those shows kept the DC Universe alive during the most turbulent period the brand has ever experienced. However, with DC Studios preparing to reboot its cinematic universe and the Arrowverse all but over, Berlanti reveals his excitement for the new era of superhero content.
“It was a moment for me and a plan, the size and scope of which we were able to achieve together,” Berlanti said. Deadline In a recent interview, he praised the closeness that he had with a lot of the cast, and still have, and with other writers and directors, and the family that we built over that time. “And the opportunity that every year we would do these big crossover episodes and all the different showrunners would come from all the different shows.”
“Creating in that way was an incredible joy and challenge, but it’s not something I would try to replicate right now. I found it very unique. I love Warner Bros. I wish them all the best with these amazing characters. We had a motto that I told everyone all the time: we’re so lucky to have these characters.”
“Let’s put them back on the shelves with more value than when we put them out. It was about that and trying to build a world and a place where everyone who loved them as much as we did could come and tell stories. Now I think it’s time for something new; the torch has been passed beautifully and I’m really excited about everything they’re doing there now.”
It’s nice to know that Greg Berlanti has nothing but the best wishes for Peter Safran, James Gunn, and the rest of the DC Studios staff. Given how heated the movies versus TV debate got at the height of the Arrowverse, a little goodwill may be exactly what the DC Universe needs heading into its new reboot.
Greg Berlanti teases his Scooby-Doo project
While Greg Berlanti’s time in the DC Universe may be over with the Arrowverse, it seems he’s not done making his mark on pop culture. The producer is working on a new live-action series based on Scooby-Doo. According to him, they took the time to find the perfect pitch before moving forward with the project.
“I have always loved [Scooby-Doo] “As a kid, and again, with any of the properties, whether it’s Hanna-Barbera, DC or any of the Warners, you feel lucky to be the historian that helps usher in a new generation,” Berlanti explained. “You just go back to the spirit and the DNA of what makes them special.”
“With Scooby Doo“We went out and listened to pitches for a year and a half and finally found one that we thought really captured everything. I was working on the pitch this morning, for the first episode. So we’re really excited.”
Given the rocky history Scooby-Doo has had when it comes to live-action adaptations, it’s a relief that Greg Berlanti is taking his time to create something truly special for fans. However, given that the person who wrote the first live-action Scooby-Doo movie is currently running DC Studios, this may kick off a new era of feuding outside of the DC Universe!
