Choosing a classic film to remake can often seem like a completely unacceptable thing to do in the film world: unless you end up with a successful new work of art, you’re usually inundated with negative reactions.
However, that concern apparently doesn’t stop Euro Gang Entertainment, the company founded by veteran producers Gianni Nunnari and Simon Horsman, who, it’s worth noting, managed to convince Martin Scorsese to turn the acclaimed Hong Kong crime thriller into a suspense film.Infernal Affairs‘ in ‘The dead people‘, winning four Oscars along the way).
Euro Gang is working with Italian producer Enzo Sisti on the creation of a new version of Sergio LeoneThe 1964 WesternA handful of dollars‘, which starred Clint Eastwood.
“In his own way, he is perhaps the most dangerous man who ever lived.”

Wandering gunslinger Joe (Eastwood) arrives in the Mexican town of San Miguel in the midst of a power struggle between Sheriff John Baxter (Wolfgang Lukschy) and the three Rojo brothers.
When a regiment of Mexican soldiers transporting gold is attacked by the Rojo brothers, Joe is hired by Esteban (Sieghardt Rupp) to join the gang, but plays one side against the other.
The film itself is a remake of ‘Yojimbo‘, which led to a lawsuit by Japanese production company Toho, but was so successful that it gave rise to a trilogy that included ‘For a few dollars more‘ and ‘The good, the bad and the ugly‘.
At this time, the producers have not revealed details of the creative team for the film, meaning we don’t know who is writing, directing or leading the cast.
Has anyone else tried to tackle ‘A Fistful of Dollars’?

Marco GordonThe company announced an attempt to turn the story into a television series in 2020, with ‘game of Thrones‘ writer Bryan Cogman in talks to write the script.
That effort did not bear fruit and the rights clearly lapsed, which explains the new film plan.
