Where to find Sailor Moon manhole covers (with map)


Looking for the exact location of all five Sailor Moon manhole covers? I’ve looked them up and placed the locations on a map for you!

In Japan, manhole covers with colorful designs are found everywhere. Some refer to the city or town in which they are placed, while others refer to popular characters, such as Pokémon and Gundam. And now, Sailor Moon has joined the club.

The manhole covers featuring Usagi and her friends were installed in Minato Ward in March 2024. Since we were staying nearby, we decided to find their exact locations. I created the map below, so you can go check them out for yourself.

I’ll add more information about the manhole covers below, including a story of how I ended up on local TV in Tokyo talking about them. Sailor Moon Manhole covers!

About the Sailor Moon Manhole covers

He Poke Tapas They have been very popular over the years, with over 250 spread across the country. I even traveled to Machida, the hometown of the creator of Pokémonto see six of the manhole covers. It’s a lot of fun to look for them and with maps like theseIt’s easy to check if there are any near the places you plan to visit.

Sailor Moonas PokémonIt’s one of those franchises that many of us grew up with. It may even have been where our love and interest in Japan began. That’s why it’s great to see the Sailor Guardians finally get their first manhole covers.

During one of our Stays in Tokyo In early 2024, we stay in the Shiba Park Hotel for a few days. Since the hotel is just a stone’s throw from one of the five Sailor Moon Manhole covers, so I decided to spend an afternoon looking for them. It was a lot of fun and we saw a lot of beautiful views of Tokyo Tower that I wouldn’t have been able to find otherwise.

Turns out we weren’t the only ones trying to find it. Manhole covers! We saw a few others stopping and taking photos and even came across a local television crew making a story about them.

Since the covers had just been installed, they probably didn’t expect two foreigners to be looking for them yet and asked us for an interview. It was very funny to see ourselves on the news that same evening in our hotel room (with Japanese voiceovers!).

He Sailor Moon Manhole covers were installed in the Azabu Juban area from the Minato district in Tokyo. It was not just any place, but it was chosen as a place parts of this area They have appeared in manga and anime, making it the perfect location for manhole covers. Here is some additional information about each cover and the significance of its location.

Five Sailor Guardians (Blue)

You can find this Sailor Moon manhole cover Right in front of the Minato librarynear Shiba Park. It’s very easy to find and was the first one we stopped at as it’s closer to the hotel we were staying at. The fictional Shiba Koen High School is located here in the series, which is where Sailor Venus goes to school.

Five Sailor Guardians (Green)

The next Sailor Moon The manhole cover can be found Next to Shiba Water Supply Station ParkWe also learned that it is close to the Dutch Embassy building. From here you can get a great view of the Tokyo Tower, which is often featured in manga and anime.

Five Sailor Guardians (Red)

The red one Sailor Moon The manhole cover is located a little further away and can be found in Roppongi. It features Usagi, Ami, Rei, Makoto, and Minako and is located In front of the entrance of Toyo Eiwa Girls’ Elementary SchoolIn the series, Sailor Mars attends a school called T*A Private Girls School, which is based on this real-life school. The background of this manhole cover is red, just like Sailor Mars’ outfit.

Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask

The manhole cover with Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask can be found Just outside exit 4 at Azabu Juban station and In front of the Oslo CaféThis also marks the beginning of the Azabu Juban shopping street, which is where Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of Sailor MoonShe spent a lot of time alone. The street can also be seen in the series several times.

This is where we met the local journalists, so I forgot to take a photo of the area. I’ve added a screenshot from Google Maps so you can easily find it. Since Google Maps hasn’t been updated with a 2024 version of this street, the manhole cover isn’t shown in the screenshot yet (but I promise it’s there!).

Five Sailor Guardians (Yellow)

The final Sailor Moon The manhole cover was the hardest to find in our search, but we ended up locating it in The entrance of Keio NakadoriThe shopping district appears often in the series, making it a perfect location for one of the manhole covers. The yellow background represents Sailor Venus (or Sailor V), Sailor Moon’s predecessor.
