The television landscape is wide and varied, and with new shows coming out virtually every day and streaming apps that let us watch the classics, there are an endless amount of shows, both good and bad. If you watch enough television and read enough articles about it, it’s not hard to figure out which are the good shows, the ones all the critics love, the ones with the biggest fan bases. That also means that certain shows will become popular enough to escape contention.
For a show to be hated, it has to be somewhat popular with its fans, or else the haters would have nothing to complain about. The hate seems to be strongest for those shows that have the biggest, most powerful fans, a dedicated audience that keeps convincing networks to greenlight more seasons despite everyone else telling them they’re bad. Some of the shows that have gotten this treatment seem to be universally, and perhaps unfairly, maligned, to the point that audiences may be missing out on something great that we’ve all been trained to think is terrible.
For this list, we’re championing ten TV shows from the past 20 years that people really can’t stand and arguing that, in reality, these shows are better than you think. These shows run the gamut from reality TV trash to mainstream TV favorites, vampire romances, horror spoofs, and high school soaps. There’s a lot more to all of these shows than the naysayers would have you believe, and if you’ve ever scoffed at the idea of watching one of them, you might want to give it another chance.
