Start thinking now it’s time for Thursday Connections puzzle. At first glance, this puzzle seems a little more difficult than it really is, since words do not automatically have obvious groupings. However, delving a little deeper into the puzzle isn’t that difficult once you understand what the editor was going for.
if you feel like it Connectionsmaybe you also like to play the NYT Vertex game, which still requires a limit to think but in a different way. In Vertex, players will create an image by connecting specific dots, which feels cathartic and satisfying. The trick is that each point can only have a certain number of connections and you’ll have to figure out which ones go together.

This one was easier today, since LIKE and APPRECIATE caught our attention as synonyms. Looking around, the only other verbs that were similar enough to fit were DIG and FANCY, which appealed to our Elizabeth Bennet sentimentality. It’s nice to have an old word every now and then for those of us who feel a little out of touch.

It seemed like HIT and SMASH were going together, but for different reasons than what we should have been looking for. At a basic definition level, these two could be considered synonyms. However, FEELING and SUCCESS also went together without the other two, and we finally, and literally, put two and two together so that they can all mean the same thing in the context of Blockbuster. And, while we’re at it, RIP Blockbuster.

Have you ever been forced to participate in donating your school’s swag at recruiting events? Well, if so, you will have an advantage in this category since it is the free loot that is often given away in promotions. BUTTON, HAT, and SHIRT were items of clothing, so it seemed right that they should go together. Discovering STICKER was a little more challenging, but it was also the only clothing-adjacent word left for this category.

THAT |
As always, this was the last category left and, therefore, easiest to solve. However, PASTE gave us some problems because we thought STICKER and PASTE might go together at the beginning of the puzzle. That being said, ESO didn’t seem to fit that well into this category. Yes, it can be used after “Copy”, but it is not a common phrase that is used in the same way as the others. Luckily, it was the only word we had left.
