Although it was a bit surprising, given that Netflix‘s’Beef‘ was submitted for –– and won a slew of awards in – the limited series category, we’ve known for a while that creator Lee Sung Jin found an idea that works for him, and he and his writers had been busy on a new batch of scripts.
And they’re going the anthology route, focusing on a new group of characters.
However, while hope had been to attract Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal to star in the next race, those negotiations have not worked.
Still, according to deadlineThe ‘Beef’ team has instead turned towards the objective Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulliganwho are in talks to star alongside those already confirmed. Carlos Melton and Cailee Spaeny.

What was the story of ‘Beef’ season 1?

The first batch of ‘Beef’ episodes charted the aftermath of a road rage incident between two strangers.
Danny Cho (Steven Yeun), a resentfully bankrupt contractor, comes face to face with Amy Lau (Ali Wong), a self-made entrepreneur with a colorful life. The growing risks of his enmity unravel his lives and relationships.
Also in the cast? joseph leeYoung Mazino, David Choe and Patti Yasutakewith Maria Bello, ashley park, Justin H.Min, Mia Serafino and Remy Holt.

What would the story of the second season of ‘Beef’ follow?

Netflix has yet to confirm anything about the new season, beyond the possible existence of a new season. All we’ve heard so far is that it will center on a feuding couple.
Which means, assuming they sign, Isaac and Mulligan would play on one side of the argument, with Melton and Spaeny on the other.

Isaac and Mulligan are household names – the former was seen in Denis Villeneuve‘s’Dune‘and heard in’Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse‘. She will soon voice Jesus in the animated film ‘King of Kings’ and will appear in Guillermo del ToroThe version of ‘Frankenstein’ and the return for the sequel to ‘Spider-Verse’Beyond the Spider-Verse‘.
Mulligan earned an Oscar nomination for his role in ”Bradley Cooper”Teacher‘and was seen alongside Adam Sandler in a science fiction film’Astronaut‘. She provided the voice for Laika’s new animated film ‘Wildwood’ and will appear in the British comedy ‘The Ballad of Wallis Island’.
Melton, best known for ‘riodale‘, had a great success last year in cinematic terms with ‘May December‘, for which he was nominated for numerous awards.
Spaeny, meanwhile, has had some solid roles, including in ‘Pacific Rim: uprising‘ and ‘Vice‘ (in addition to television series such as ‘Easttown Mare‘ and ‘Developers‘), but has earned rave reviews for his performance as Priscilla Presley in Sofia Coppola‘s’priscilla‘. She was recently on screen in ‘Civil war‘ and has ‘Alien: Romulus‘expires in August.
Netflix has yet to formally greenlight this one, but production company A24 is certainly hoping to get moving.
