Miles Teller he played a conflicted Navy pilot in ‘Top Gun: Maverick‘ and it looks like it’s ready to serve once again.

No, Supreme has not given the starting signal for a new ‘Top gun‘ sequel (not yet, although there is one in development), instead, Teller is on board to tackle a role that gave him Richard Gere a push toward movie stardom: He will play the lead role in a remake of ‘An officer and a gentleman‘.

What is the story of ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’?

The 1982 original, directed by Taylor Hackford From a script by Douglas Day Stewart, it follows Zack Mayo (Gere), a new member of the US Navy with a bad attitude.

Enrolling in the Aviation Academy, he endures the strict leadership of Sergeant Emil Foley (Luis Gossett Jr.), which gives Zack a rude awakening in terms of his relationship with other people.

Through Foley’s guidance –– and an unexpected romance with Paula (Debra Winger), an outsider hanging around the naval base –– Zack learns some hard lessons and discovers what he really wants out of life.

A huge box office success ($129.7 million on a budget of $7.5 million), the film also earned six Oscar nominations, with Gossett Jr. taking home Best Supporting Actor and Composer Jack Nitzsche, Will Jennings and Buffy Santa Maria Best Original Song for ‘Up Where We Belong’, performed by Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes. The song itself also became a hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 and charts in several countries.

Gere and Winger became stars thanks to their performances and the film is considered a distinctive romantic drama, famous for its final reunion scene between the two lovers.

Who is working on the new ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’?

Paramount, which produced and distributed the original, is looking to use another classic piece of intellectual property for this update.

With production company Temple Hill involved, the new ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’ has been in the works for some time, with at least a draft script for ‘In the blue‘s Matt Johnson and the latest version of ‘cruella‘s Dana Fox.

Teller, who won plaudits for films like ‘Lash‘ and ‘Maverick’ first triumphed in another remake, the 2011 version of ‘Free‘.

He has Scott Derrick‘action thriller/sci-fi romance’throat‘on the way together with’Miguel‘ he michael jackson biopic in which he plays Jackson’s lawyer, John Branca.

As for ‘An Officer and a Gentleman’, with no director yet, we’ll have to wait and see when – or if – it gets a release date.
