Kelly Stafford is addressing the “media storm” that followed his confession about dating a Georgia backup QB to make Matthew Stafford jealous…apologizing to the man who some people THINK was referring to her in the anecdote.
In case you missed it… Kelly appeared on the ‘Off the Vine’ podcast earlier this month, where she recalled how she landed her now-husband when she was an entertainer in Athens. During the show, she admitted to first going after her backup to get her attention…and of course, the plan eventually worked.

However, subsequent comments on social media were not about Kelly and Matthew’s slow start… but rather about identifying the unnamed backup, with many assuming it was joe cox.
The story spread like wildfire, but Kelly finally broke her silence on Tuesday. On Instagram, Stafford responded to critics who claimed she was “embarrassing” the Rams superstar with the story… because she insists Matthew doesn’t care one bit.
He also sent a heartfelt message to Cox and his family… sharing his regret for involving them in his mess, especially considering Joe was NOT the backup QB he was talking about.
Turns out, Joe was already dating his now-wife when their whole story happened… and Kelly says their relationship inspired what she wanted with Matthew.
Neither Joe nor his wife have commented publicly on the matter, but chances are we’ll never hear from them… as they’ve apparently stayed pretty quiet over the past few weeks.
Although Kelly probably hopes this saga is behind her… the clip of her story will live on in Internet history.
