Kevin Costner hit the travel circuit last week to promote his self-financed Western epic. Horizon and revealed his thoughts on the death of Jonathan Kent on Zack Snyder Iron Man.
To refresh your memory, in one of the film’s key moments, a teenage Clark Kent (Henry Cavill) lets his Earthly adoptive father, Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), die in a tornado in order to maintain Clark’s undisclosed superpowers as a family secret, acting according to Jonathan’s wishes. Many on the Internet argued that since he was a powerful Kryptonian, Clark could have easily saved him.
Costner reflected humorously on his role as a “normal” character in a superhero movie.
“I’m lucky to be in a superhero movie and be the only normal person.” Costner said in an interview with Reelblend“I was like, ‘Really? I can’t fly? And I can’t go through the wall with the first one? Maybe I should have read this more carefully. Am I a farmer? So I looked at that and I was like, ‘Okay, I can be that. ’”
Costner explained the motivation behind Jonathan’s fateful decision.
“I thought it was due to doubt,” Costner added. “But there was no doubt that he raises his hand and tells his son, ‘Stay there.'”
At the beginning of this yearDirector Zack Snyder addressed the decision and defended the divisive scene, explaining the underlying reason behind Clark’s decision.
“The conversation is exactly what he tells Lois… I let my father die to protect the idea that my father was trying to protect,” Snyder said. “The idea that I wasn’t ready for the world to reveal my sexuality to me because I wasn’t. SupermanI’m just a teenager who could have messed everything up. I have the power to do it, but have I ever used my powers this way?
“I trusted that his vision of what I could be was “bigger than him,” Snyder He added: “This little incident in Kansas was not what was going to expose me to the world.”
