ZDNET Key Takeaways

  • He Eufy Omni S1 Pro Robot Vacuum Cleaner and Mop officially released for $1,499 after a successful Kickstarter campaign.
  • This robot vacuum has it all, including a great object avoidance system and a mop roller that washes itself while cleaning floors, ensuring only fresh water is used when mopping. This is the best mopping function I have ever tried.
  • The S1 Pro can make a little noise when it self-empties and the base is higher than most.

Robot vacuum and mop combo devices seem to get better every day. Having used robotic mops that drag a dirty microfiber cloth across the floor, I used to find rotating mop pads innovative. But then came self-cleaning robot mops with separate tanks for clean and dirty water, ensuring your floors are cleaned with only fresh water.

The Eufy Omni S1 Pro has this type of roller mop, and is the most advanced robot vacuum and mop I have tried. It’s the kind of device that really has it all: powerful 8000 Pa suction power with a rubber brush, a self-emptying charging station, a scrubbing roller that continuously washes inside the robot as it cleans, a self-washing and drying station for the robot mop, an LCD screen on the base with touch buttons to help you choose a cleaning mode, and even an optional disinfection system to ensure the mop remains bacteria-free.

Ultimately, a robot vacuum and mop combo is only as good as how well it cleans. You’ll only spend $1,499 on such a device if you can be sure it will hold your weight comfortably. But in the almost three months that I have been using it, I can say that the Eufy Omni S1 Pro is the most efficient robot vacuum cleaner and mop that I have tested, both in vacuum and mop mode.

It’s also by far the best robot mop I’ve come across. Could it remove the stains on my floors that my Eufy X9 Pro could not and demonstrated to have better cartographic capabilities than the Deebot X2 Omni is a competitor I have tried with similar characteristics. It even mopped better than the The best robot vacuum cleaner and mop. I have triedhe Dreame X40 Ultraand it only falls a little short in its vacuum function.

Also: I tested a $1,900 robot vacuum and mop for a month. Here’s why it’s worth it

It is a very efficient device; It uses less water per cleaning session than all my robots and cleans the same area in less time than most. While the Deebot X2 Omni cleans my downstairs in about 117 minutes, the S1 Pro does it in 70 minutes without missing a single spot.

Until recently, the old Eufy X9 Pro was my favorite of all the robot vacuums I’ve tested; The only thing missing was a self-emptying trash can. The S1 Pro improves on everything the Eufy X9 Pro could do, plus it has the self-emptying trash can that the previous version lacked.

The mop roller is almost as wide as the robot vacuum and cleans floors cleanly without leaving streaks or tire tracks. Only mop with clean water, as the robot continually cleans the mop roller as it moves around the house. I was skeptical about this system when I first saw it in the Switchbot S10 Robot Vacuum Cleaner and Mop. It looks like something might get stuck in it or the roller would wear out with regular use, but that hasn’t been the case.

Aside from some additional regular maintenance compared to other robot vacuum and mop combos, the Eufy Omni S1 Pro’s mopping feature has worked perfectly for the past three months. The roller mop system that only uses clean water to wash floors requires a feat of engineering packed into a small unit, including a dirty water tank with many moving parts and removable parts.

This dirty water tank, or “sink” as Eufy calls it, can become clogged if not cleaned periodically. It only requires deep cleaning about once every two weeks, which is still much more convenient than having to mop floors manually. And it balances out when you consider that you won’t have to refill the water tank as often as other 2-in-1 robots because the S1 Pro is so efficient.

The LCD touchscreen on the base is also a useful feature. It allows you to switch from vacuum mode to mop mode from the base station, which you would have to do in the app with other models. I also appreciate the ability to call the robot back to load whenever possible.

But where does the Eufy S1 Pro fail?

For starters, it’s very loud. The robot is quieter than the older X9 Pro and Deebot X2 Omni on hard floors, although it can make noise when the suction power is increased. Also, the charging station is very noisy.

The first time the robot docked to vacuum up the contents of its trash can, it sounded like it was about to take off into orbit. My toddler came into the room where the S1 Pro was to ask if she was okay. The machine then responded by beginning the very loud process of washing the mop pad, which consists of a series of regurgitated sounds that would have made the other self-washing robot mops in my house clutch their pearls.

I can live with the noise (after all, I have three small children), but it’s inconvenient to know that you can’t use it at night because your kids would wake up thinking a plane is landing in the driveway. You can set ‘do not disturb’ hours so that the robot does not perform self-cleaning tasks during a certain time of day.

The charging station is also very high. For comparison, the Eufy X9 Pro is approximately 17.5 inches tall, the Deebot It looks sleek and modern, but also stands out.

The only other thing I’m not a big fan of is what Anker calls Eco-Clean Ozone and I was happy to see that it’s an optional setting. The machine produces ozonated water from tap water, which is used to deep clean surfaces and kill bacteria.

Ozone is a very effective disinfectant; Quickly neutralizes bacteria, viruses and fungi in seconds. However, ozone in gas form is also a known lung irritant, so I strongly advise against people purchasing air purifiers with ozone or having a device that uses ozone gas in their homes. I was recently diagnosed with a genetic disease that puts me at risk for a fatal lung disease, so I can’t risk having a device that could harm me, no matter how well it cleans.

I contacted Anker to ask about the safety of the S1 Pro’s ozonated water production, and the company shared a 600-page report from the TUV Rheinland laboratory. This test was performed according to IEC and UL standards, and the S1 Pro passed the “Radiation, toxicity and similar hazards” clause, which includes ozone production. The highest amount of ozone measured during testing was 0.67 parts per million (ppm), which is within the safety zone of the IEC standard of 5 ppm, making it harmless to human health.

Of course, I still decided to try the Eufy S1 Pro, ozone and all, but after the first clean, I disabled the Eco-Clean Ozone feature in the Mach app. As an overly cautious person, I appreciate that you can turn it on or off.

ZDNET Buying Tips

Based on performance, the Eufy Omni S1 Pro seems to be worth every dollar of the $1,500 price tag. This robot vacuum and mop does it all and does it well. It mops almost as well as I do, in fact cleaning my floors with clean water with every pass instead of dragging a dirty pad everywhere.

Watching the S1 Pro glide gracefully through my house, picking up every strand of pet hair and, for the most part, not getting tangled in socks, things my kids left behind, or wires had me bursting with excitement. It’s one of the two best robots I’ve tested with excellent obstacle avoidance ability, second only to the $1900 one. Dreame X40 Ultra.

This is best if you want an efficient yet effective high-end robot vacuum cleaner that can clean itself. But suppose you want a vacuum cleaner that can fully operate during quiet hours and doesn’t emit any potential irritants (although you can always turn off Eco-Clean Ozone).
