king charles has paid tribute to the iconic British actress Maggie Smith who has died in London at the age of 89.
“My wife and I were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Dame Maggie Smith,” the UK monarch said in a statement.
“As the curtain falls on a national treasure, we join all those around the world in remembering with the deepest admiration and affection his great performances, and his warmth and wit that shone both on and off the stage.”
The king shared a photo of himself speaking to Smith at the Pride Of Britain Awards at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on October 31, 2016, when he was still Prince Charles.
The tributes have thick and fast pour for him harry potter and Downton Abbey star.
Previously, Britain's Keir Starmer described Smith as “a true national treasure,” saying he had introduced viewers to “new worlds with the countless stories he portrayed throughout his long career.”
