Will Doctor Doom really be a threat to the multiverse? A new rumor reveals how Marvel will position Robert Downey Jr. as a real threat in Avengers: Judgment Day.
When it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would be replacing Jonathan Major as the main villain of Marvel’s current saga, fans were left wondering how that would work. Characters like Kang and Thanos were created for years before taking on their villainous role, which left relatively no time for the studio to create Doctor Doom before Avengers: Judgment Day.
One of the predominant theories was that Robert Downey Jr. would play a variant of Tony Stark in Avengers: Judgment Daywith Marvel using their history in the MCU as a shortcut to setting up the villain. However, that idea was quickly discredited by Downey himself revealing that his version of Doctor Doom will, in fact, be a variant of Victor Von Doom.
Marvel’s plan for Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday
This left the question of how Marvel will make Doctor Doom feel like a real threat in Avengers: Judgment Day unanswered. Luckily, a new rumor The cosmic circus apparently reveals the studio’s plans to turn Robert Downey Jr. into a threat to the multiverse. Unfortunately for Kang fans, it looks like his course of action won’t be very kind to his character (and the infinite variations between them).
“…If they go for what they want for Doom in this movie, they would have a fantastic explanation that not only sets him up perfectly for when we see him in Doomsday, but also puts him in a position where he can easily become one of the antagonists.” Marvel’s most justifiable, perhaps even more than Thanos. If you really want to know why in Latveria flowers die in summer, then you’ll know where to look.”
That final line is key to understanding Marvel’s plans for Robert Downey Jr. in Avengers: Judgment Day. is a reference to New Avengers #33where Doctor Doom is tasked with killing all versions of Molecule Man to prevent incursions from The Beyonders. While the MCU doesn’t have a Molecule Man, it does have an infinitely recurring villain associated with raids, suggesting that almost every version of Kang will die within the first few minutes of the film.
Avengers: Judgment Day is scheduled to hit theaters in May 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news on the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
