With the last quarter of 2024 approaching the shores, we expect chipmakers to make their big announcements for the next generation of flagship chipsets. With the launch of such chipsets, we will see a race among smartphone manufacturers to see which one will be the first to launch new flagships. According to a new report by Tipster Digital Chat StationWe will likely see MediaTek come out first with its new Dimensity 9400 chipset. Then, Vivo and Oppo will launch their new Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8 series, which will feature the new chipset. They will launch before the Xiaomi 15 series, which will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.
Qualcomm Typically, MediaTek launches its flagship SoC first, followed by MediaTek a month later. However, if the leak is true, MediaTek will take the lead this year with new phones featuring the chipset.
Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8 series to launch in October with Dimensity 9400
According to the tipster, the Vivo X200 series and the Oppo Find X8 series will arrive in October. There are not many details available about the Oppo Find X8 series. The Vivo X200 series, on the other hand, has been leaked a lot in the past few weeks. The launch could feature three models, the Vivo X200 Mini (tentative name), Vivo X200 and X200Pro. Additionally, we may see a Lite and Ultra variant in the future. The first three devices will feature the Dimensity 9400.

Considering the leak, it’s possible that MediaTek will launch its new flagship SoC in early October. After all, Qualcomm will unveil its Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 later on October 21. The Dimensity 9400 is set to impress with the latest ARM cores, including the new Cortex X925 performance cores. Qualcomm, on the other hand, is moving away from its long-favorite ARM cores this year. It will move to its in-house Oryon CPU cores, and we’re curious to see the results.
News of the week from Gizchina
First details of Dimensity 9400
A report from earlier this week reveals that the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 offers a 30% increase in single-core performance over its predecessor. On paper, while the Dimensity 9300 scores around 2207 points in Geekbench single-core tests, the Dimensity 9400 could hit around 2870 points, which is impressive. Interestingly, leaked benchmarks for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 suggest a similar single-core performance at 2884 points. We will see a tight competition in the flagship range.

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is also rumored to be very efficient. Last year, we saw MediaTek take the risky route of releasing a chipset that only had performance cores. However, that turned out to be quite positive as the company found the balance between performance and efficiency. This year, we expect the company to maintain this strategy and bring improvements in power consumption. The Dimensity 9400, for example, is said to consume 30% less power than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 on similar tasks. On top of that, the Dimensity 9400 will be the first chip to use Samsung’s ultra-fast 10.7Gbps LPDDR5x memory. It’s the fastest in the industry.
MediaTek to gain lead over Qualcomm
With the launch of the Vivo X200 and Oppo Find X8 series powered by the Dimensity 9400 SoC, we will see MediaTek getting some attention before Qualcomm does. If the processor lives up to its promises of efficiency and performance, we might see more smartphone brands jumping on the MediaTek bandwagon. The Dimensity 9000 series chips certainly proved their worth these years. However, the Snapdragon 8 series remains the favorite of OEMs and consumers at large. We are curious to see if there will be any changes to this landscape with the next generation. Especially, with Qualcomm taking an alternative route with its Oryon chips.
Vivo and Oppo are likely to be followed by Xiaomi with its Xiaomi 15 series. On the other hand, these devices are expected to use Qualcomm’s flagship SoC.
