Democrats knew they were in trouble long before President Joe Biden’s disastrous presidential debate.
That’s why pundits scoffed at a desperate plan to get Biden over the finish line earlier this year: Taylor Swift seal of approval.
The pop music sensation sat out the 2016 presidential race and paid a price for it. The media He attacked her fiercely for remaining silent.and some media outlets suggested he needed to renounce his white supremacist fans.
In the end, she agreed. They even made a film about her political transformation. “Miss Americana” from Netflix.
Except something curious happened during the most important year of his already momentous career. Swift kept politics off the stage in 2023.
Her Eras Tour stayed true to the songs. No speeches. No pro-abortion messages. No anti-Trump comments. Just the hits. And she became the biggest celebrity on the planet.
He hasn’t changed his tone during this year’s presidential rematch between Biden and Donald Trump. He hasn’t sent out Instagram messages telling fans to vote Democrat in November. He hasn’t attacked “Orange Man Bad.”
Nothing.
Democrats are now pinning their hopes on Vice President Kamala Harris. The former senator is poised to replace Biden, who is dropping out of the race. Her recent speech on the topic was short on details.

Harris’ rise has put the vice president’s race and gender at the forefront of minds. Suddenly, criticizing Harris’ record smacks of racism and sexism in some circles.
Identity Politics’ cards are likely to be put to the test over the next 100 days. And that’s where Swift comes in.
Will the superstar be able to step down when Swifties get the chance to elect their first female president? Will she be able to ignore that feminist narrative?
She may have been reluctant to back Biden because of his obvious cognitive decline. That problem doesn’t exist with Harris.
The Democratic Party had already hinted at a possible role for Swift before Harris’s promotion.

One thing is clear.
If Swift stays out of the 2024 campaign and Harris loses to Trump, the media will not be happy. Expect an avalanche of angry articles blaming her for a second Trump term, no matter how specious the argument.
For that reason alone we can hope that Swift’s silence will end between now and Election Day.
