In one of the most historic moments in American history, President Joe Biden Biden has decided to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race for re-election. Weeks after several celebrities, politicians and other public figures called on Biden to drop out of the race, several responded to the president’s announcement on Sunday, July 31, including former US President Donald Trump. “Joe Biden has been one of America’s most important presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me,” the former US president wrote in his official address. statement“Today we have also been reminded, once again, that he is a patriot of the highest order.”

Obama went on to note that President Biden “has led us away from the four years of chaos, deceit and division that characterized the Trump administration.”

“I also know that Joe has never backed down from a fight,” Obama acknowledged. “For him to look at the political landscape and decide that he must pass the torch to a new candidate is undoubtedly one of the most difficult things of his life. But I know that he would not make this decision unless he believed it was in the best interest of America. It is a testament to Joe Biden’s love for his country, and a historic example of a true public servant once again putting the interests of the American people ahead of his own — an example that future generations of leaders would do well to follow.”

At the end of his statement, Obama spoke on behalf of his wife, Michelle Obamanoting that both “want to express our love and gratitude to Joe and Jill [Biden] for leading us so skillfully and courageously during these perilous times, and for his commitment to the ideals of liberty and equality upon which this country was founded.”

Hillary and Bill Clinton

The Clintons issued a joint statement in support of Biden’s historic decision. Bill and Hillary said they “are honored to join the President in endorsing Vice President Harris” and acknowledged that they “will do everything in our power to support her.”

“We’ve been through many ups and downs, but nothing has worried us more about our country than the threat of a second Trump term,” the Clintons continued. “He has promised to be a dictator from day one, and the recent ruling by a subservient Supreme Court will only embolden him to continue shredding the Constitution. Now is the time to stand with Kamala Harris and fight with everything we have to elect her. America’s future depends on it. With love and gratitude to President Biden for always believing in the promise of America and giving people the opportunity to reach their fullness. “Joe Biden has earned his place among the greatest and best presidents in American history,” the U.S. Secretary of Transportation tweeted. “I am so proud to work under his leadership and grateful for his unwavering focus on what is best for our country.”

Jamie Lee Curtis

The actress tweeted: “I wholeheartedly support @joebiden and his decision to resign and wholeheartedly support @kamalaharris. SHE IS TRUSTED & PROVEN and is a fierce advocate for the rights of women and people of color and her message is one of HOPE & UNITY for America in its time of great national division.”
