Hollywood, stunned by Jon Landau’s death, pays tribute to his vision and monumental achievements


The relaxation of a long holiday weekend was interrupted for many today when news of the death of the producer at the age of 63 spread. Jon Landau.

Landau collaborated on such important films as Titanic and the original Avatar. Other credits included Avatar: The Way of Water, Solaris, Alita: Battle Angel directed by Robert Rodriguez, and Honey, I shrunk the Children and Dick Tracy.

Alan Bergmanco-chairman of Disney Entertainment, issued a statement about Landau.

“Jon was a visionary whose extraordinary talent and passion brought some of the most unforgettable stories to life on the big screen. His remarkable contributions to the film industry have left an indelible mark and he will be deeply missed. He was an iconic and successful producer, but also an even greater person and a true force of nature who inspired all those around him.

“Our thoughts are with Jon’s wife, Julie, and his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson and screenwriter Fran Walsh He also mourned her loss in a statement.

“We speak on behalf of the entire team at Wētā FX when we say we are devastated by the loss of Jon Landau. Jon was not only a monumental figure in the film industry, but also a beloved collaborator and friend. Jon brought unparalleled passion to the projects he worked on and his influence will continue to inspire for years to come. Our deepest condolences go out to Jon’s family and loved ones, as well as to Jim and the team at Lightstorm Entertainment.”

Joe Letteriwho won an Academy Award for his work in Avatar, He said: “I am heartbroken by the loss of our friend Jon Landau. He was an incredible and generous man, and a world-class filmmaker who leaves behind a legacy that will live on for generations. On behalf of all of us at Wētā FX, it was an honour to work alongside him. His dedication to the craft of filmmaking inspired us every day. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones.”
