But that’s not stopping Molly Smith Metzler from adapting her play Elemeno Pea into a new limited series of black comedy thriller for Netflix called ‘Mermaids’, which has landed Julianne Moore, Milly Alcock and Meghann Fahy as the leads. It looks like it will be closer to comedy territory than some of the examples we mentioned.
What is the story of ‘Mermaids’?

Devon (Fahy) thinks his sister Simone (Alcock) is having a really creepy relationship with her new boss, enigmatic socialite Michaela Kell (Moore). Michaela’s life of luxury and cultism is like a drug to Simone, and Devon has decided it’s time to intervene. When Devon seeks out his sister to tell her WTF, he has no idea how formidable Michaela will be as an opponent.
Told over the course of an explosive weekend at the Kells’ luxurious beach estate, ‘Sirens’ is described as an incisive, sexy and darkly funny exploration of women, power and class.

Kevin Bacon will play Michela’s husband, Peter Kell. Peter comes from an old, wealthy family and is the highest-status person in every room he enters. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys smoking a joint from time to time.
Glenn Howerton He’s on board as Ethan Corbin II. Ethan is a dear friend of the Kells and a lifelong bachelor who lives next door. He’s a regular at the yacht club and is quickly depleting his trust fund.

Who else is part of the creative team for ‘Sirens’?
The show represents Metzler’s reunion with Netflix after ‘Maid‘ and has emerged from the creative partnership between the showrunner and the streaming service.
‘WatchmenDirector Nicole Kassell serves as executive producer and is in charge of the first two episodes.
And the new series comes from LuckyChap, with Margot Robbie producing alongside his partners Dani Gorin and Tom Ackerley.
When will ‘Mermaids’ be on Netflix?
Netflix has yet to confirm when the show will arrive on its servers, but we’re guessing it will be late this year or early next year.
