With platforms like Android Auto making its way into more and more different vehicles around the world, we’re guessing it was only a matter of time before it made its way to Lucid Motors’ lineup of cars. The company recently confirmed that it will be bringing Android Auto to the Lucid Air sedan via an over-the-air software update, slated to arrive in the fall. It should be noted that Lucid previously only supported Apple CarPlay.
That said, the update adds several Features include voice commands, navigation, calling, texting and music control. Users can access Android Auto and its features through the car’s “Pilot Panel,” which serves as the primary infotainment touch and control interface within the Lucid Air.
A while ago, Google revealed that it plans Streamlining Android Auto app developmentwhich includes several future features such as “Google Cast”, which will soon be available for compatible Rivian vehicles, and access to more entertainment platforms, including Peacock, Max and even games like Angry Birds, which are coming soon for select vehicles.
For developers, Google is also offering new “app quality levels” for the software, which divides apps into “car-differentiated” for apps built to work on a variety of different hardware in cars, “car-optimized,” which focus on specific car capabilities available in driving and parking modes, and “car-ready” apps that work with Large screens and are enabled while the vehicle is parked.
